Take good care of the soil before sowing…

Instead of adding dangerous products to the soil when planting your vegetables,  you can use a natural fertilizer. Easy to make, you will be able to care for the soil and harvest healthy vegetables without toxic products and without breaking the bank!

You may for instance use coffee grounds, eggshells or banana peels to boost the growth of your vegetables, while repelling slugs or other unwanted critters. Other natural components, such as horse manure, also contribute to better growth.

Combine the right plants

Make sure that you choose the right plants for your organic vegetable garden. Indeed, an adequate combination will allow you to better protect them, even without using pesticides. Interdependent cultivation reduces the risks of diseases because the plants can protect each other.

Which vegetables should you choose? While tomatoes and carrots get along well with cabbage and spinach, they will not grow well with beets, red cabbage and fennel. As for turnips, they do not like living alongside the radish but are happy to hang out with garlic, celery, or chives. You can also opt for plants with repellent properties around your vegetables to ward off insects and the risk of diseases.

Invite other visitors to your garden ecosystem

The living ecosystem of your garden can also help you maintain it. As long as they are desirable auxiliaries. Insects and animals can help you get rid of other predators! Consider putting up shelters: bird feeders, or even insect hotels… Ladybugs, bees or even birds can help you get rid of aphids, caterpillars and slugs that threaten your vegetables. However, do not forget to protect the latter with a net.
